Kindle E-reader
In this series of testimonials, quirky characters use deadpan delivery to tell of the over-the-top troubles they face when they choose paperback or hardcover books over the Kindle E-reader.
:30 “FIRE STARTER”
Open on a hair salon. A woman in her mid 20s sits sheepishly in a stylist’s chair. Her hair is charred and smoldering and her face is smeared with ashes.
WOMAN: I started a new book while waiting for the bus last night.
A miffed hairdresser enters the scene, piling several products onto the counter behind the woman, not bothering to hide her irritated aggression.
WOMAN: The climax was building, but it got too dark to see the words on the page.
A flame starts up on one clump of hair. Unphased, she puffs out the corner of her mouth, attempting to extinguish the flame. It doesn’t work.
WOMAN: So I got my lighter out, thinking I’d read by the light of the flame. Guess I got a little
too close.
The hairdresser dumps a bucket of water over the woman’s head, causing her hair to sizzle.
WOMAN: The fire chief says I have to attend a safety seminar.
ART: Adjust the brightness for anytime reading.

:30 “PAPERCUT”
Open on an unapologetic middle aged man waiting outside of a hospital. His left hand is heavily bandaged. He squints into the sun while looking for his wife who went to pull the car around.
MAN: I was reading by the pool. Good, solid non-fiction war book.
He emphasizes “non-fiction” by raising his bandaged hand, which has now begun to seep with blood.
MAN: I turned the page and it, uh, gave me a paper cut.
He raises his left hand to show the camera. One finger is missing.
MAN: Yep, sliced my ring finger right off.
Blood continues to drench his bandage. He raises his healthy right hand to proudly show that he’s holding a detached finger. His face breaks into a wide grin.
MAN (giddy): Doc let me keep it.
ART: Turn pages with only a tap.

:30 “THE FALL”
Open on a lanky man in his 30s propped against the base of a rocky mountain. The man has bruises, swellings, and bug bites covering his body. His lips and jaw are battered and swollen, so he mumbles. A bulky backpack rests beside him.
SUBTITLES: It was a two-week backpacking trip up the mountain, so I needed a lot of books.
Another man comes in and applies salve and leaves to his scraped limbs.
SUBTITLES: Halfway through the climb up the mountain, they started to get pretty heavy.
The other man tips a canteen to his lips.
SUBTITLES: I landed here, in these poison ivy rocks.
The second man swats at a buzzing wasp.
SUBTITLES: My screams upset the yellow jackets.
ART: All your literature on one device.
